Message from Andrew Grose

The Edmonton Comedy Festival
We promised you “4 Days of Funny” and, with the help of our great staff, volunteers, sponsors and our amazing comedians, I think we delivered. The 2015 edition of the Edmonton Comedy Festival featured over 30 comics from across North America bringing the laughs at sold out venues throughout the city. Our attendance was the largest in our 5 year history which helped us to help Special Olympics, The Progress Club, The Kinsmen of St. Albert, The Zebra Child Protection Center, Free Footie, and United Way’s Empower U.
We are very fortunate to have amazing sponsors in this festival including ATB Financial, of course, but also Coventry Homes, Crystal Glass, Big Top Tent Rentals, Bumper to Bumper, Four Points by Sheraton and Unicon Concrete. These are all companies who do so much more than simply sign a cheque. They are our partners and our friends. We have the pictures to prove it.
Our army of volunteers led by Kathleen do so much to make our shows a success that it’s too cliché to say “We couldn’t do this without them.” The truth is, we seriously couldn’t do this without them. When I walk in a venue and see those blue shirts I just want to hug each and every one of them. To you they are a friendly and welcoming smile; to me they are the backbone of the festival. They help us herd the kittens.
We have an amazing staff of venue supervisors and backstage help that none of you will ever see but without whom we could not put on these shows. While comedians may appear to be alone on that stage they never are. They are surrounded by crew who do everything from sound and lights to figuring out how to tell the comedian they need to stall for 5 minutes using only a flashlight.
Our comedians are always incredible. As I like to say “You may not heard of all of them but you will never forget any of them.” We don’t hire by credit; we hire by talent and they always deliver. While everyone who plays the Edmonton Comedy Festival is hilarious I will admit the some of the funniest lines come at the private party we throw Friday and Saturday night over cans of beer and plates of pizza.
At the heart of the Festival is our Executive Director Carole. From contracts to cheese trays she arranges it all. The most common phrase heard throughout the festival is “I need Carole?” As the festival drew to a close and the courtesy suite emptied out I stopped at the door and looked back. Carole was picking up paper plates and empty beer cans. She never quits.
And finally, thank you to our audiences. We do it all for you and you repay us with your laughter and applause. My promise to you is if you will keep coming out and supporting live stand-up comedy in Edmonton; we will keep bringing you the best stand-up comedians from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and the world.
So for 2015 we say Thank you… and good night.
